COVID-19 patients are not protected from re-infection, Armenian specialist says

March 11, 2021  14:24

Patients who have recovered from COVID-19 are not at all protected from re-infection with coronavirus, so they should not lose their vigilance, and they also cannot abandon preventive measures.

According to Romella Abovyan, Head of the Department for Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases and Nosocomial Infections, National Centre of Disease Control and Prevention, Armenia, antibodies in recovered patients persist for up to 8 months, but this is also individual.

She noted that even if a person has antibodies after COVID-19, he can still become infected with a different strain of the virus.

Patients who have recovered can also be vaccinated when there are enough vaccines in the country, she added.
