Overweight women are better protected from the risk of premature death than those with a lower percentage, Journal of American Heart Association reported referring to a new study.
Scientists from the University of California have found that women with high percentages of muscle mass and fat have a 42% lower risk of dying from heart disease than those who are low in muscle and fat. Participants in the experiment with large muscle mass and low fat did not find any advantages over those who had both of these indicators.
Through the experiment, the researchers identified physiological differences between women and men when looking at body composition and the risk of dying from heart disease. For example, among men with a high percentage of fat and muscle mass, the likelihood of dying from heart disease was 26% lower than those who had low values on both indicators. The risk of premature death from heart issues was reduced by 60% due to low fat content and high muscle mass.
