Riding an e-bike reportedly requires less energy than riding a regular bike.
American scientists conducted a study noting that riding an e-bike can be considered healthy.
According to Medportal.ru, the study involved 30 men and women aged 19 to 61, none of them was an experienced cyclist. They were asked to ride a regular bike and an electric bike at different times for about 5 kilometers on a smooth asphalt track. On the electric bike, the volunteers made two trips: one with the minimum engine operation, the second with the maximum use of the electric drive.
The study participants also wore heart monitors and masks that assessed the body's oxygen consumption.
Participants in the study covered the distance faster on electric bicycles than on traditional ones, and the trips themselves were easier for them. But, according to scientists, the pulse and respiratory rate during such a ride can increase enough to be considered a moderate load. This means that riding an electric bike can be considered an exercise that contributes to a person's fitness and health.
However, almost all volunteers burned 30% fewer calories while riding an electric bike than during normal cycling.
