Vitamin D still not effective against COVID-19, study claims

June 5, 2021  10:24

Vitamin D is still not effective against COVID-19 and does not improve clinical outcomes in patients, reported the largest study on this topic, conducted by the Canadian scientists.

According to Medportal.ru, the scientists wanted to find out if there is a link between a genetic predisposition to elevated vitamin D levels and a less severe course of COVID-19.

They analyzed data from 4,134 COVID-19 patients using Mendelian randomization, and using genetic variants most associated with elevated vitamin D. coronavirus infection.

Experts have found no evidence that people without vitamin D deficiency have any benefits if they become infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Nor does the 'sun vitamin' protect against possible complications, therefore cholecalciferol supplementation cannot improve clinical outcomes in the general population.
