What factor can increase risk of death after surgery?

March 7, 2022  21:29

Researchers from the Meshalkin National Medical Research Center in Novosibirsk have identified a new factor that affects the probability of death during surgery, TASS reports referring to the press service of the center.

Specialists have analyzed data of 13,862 patients who have undergone various heart surgeries. As it turned out, the increase in blood levels of cardiac protein troponin after heart surgery increases the risk of death within the next 30 days. Troponin was measured every 3 to 12 hours and on the first, second, and third day after surgery.

According to the scientists, the results of this study will make it possible to identify high-risk patients in advance and implement appropriate preventive procedures.
