What foods improve body's condition when there are kidney stones?

Kidney stones can be caused by not drinking enough water, exercising too much or too little, eating foods with too much salt or sugar, eating lots of animal protein without lots of vegetables, and even obesity or weight loss surgery, writes Eat This, Not That! 

The most common type of kidney stone in adults is calcium oxalate stones: if we're talking specifically about these stones, the best food you can eat is a combination of calcium- and oxalate-rich foods, notes nutritionist Sydney Greene. 

According to the National Kidney Foundation, oxalate is naturally found in many foods, including fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, grains and legumes. 

The combination of oxalate and calcium is more likely to bind to each other in the stomach and intestines before the kidneys start processing. This makes kidney stones less likely to form.

Greene explained that there are ways to combine calcium-rich foods and oxalate-rich foods in your daily diet.

According to Greene, especially spinach, are usually high in oxalates. To get more calcium, mix greens with milk, cow's milk kefir or calcium-rich nut milk to get the nutrients you need.
