Nerses Grigoryan: 10-12% increase in covid morbidity registered in Armenia

August 31, 2022  14:58

Over the past two weeks compared with the previous two weeks recorded an increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection at 10-12%. The same picture is observed in the statistics on a weekly basis, Nerses Grigoryan, Armenian Health Ministry epidemiologist, told NEWS.am Medicine correspondent.

"Despite the fact that the situation with coronavirus in Armenia is stable, nevertheless, there is a tendency to increase the number of infected people. This is mainly caused by the Omicron strain and its sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5.

There are few patients with coronavirus in critically severe condition compared to the period when the delta strain prevailed. Mostly asymptomatic patients and patients in a mild form prevail.

If there is an increase in the number of infected people depending on the severity of the disease and other aspects, proposals for restrictions and preventive measures will be made if necessary," Grigoryan noted.

He reminded that currently all restrictions have been lifted and the mask regime applies only to medical organizations.

Grigoryan pointed to the desirability of wearing medical masks in crowded and closed places, observing social distance, refusing to hold events in crowded and closed places.

According to his assessment, with the beginning of the school year an increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection is expected due to the intensification of contacts between people.

"Suggestions will also be made in this direction, if necessary, if the growth continues," the epidemiologist said.

Grigoryan said that a high level of morbidity is observed in Yerevan.

"Relatively high incidence rates are also recorded in Armavir, Kotayk and Ararat regions," he concluded.
