UK recognizes e-cigarettes as less dangerous alternative to smoking

The U.K. Department of Health and Welfare has recognized e-cigarettes as a less dangerous alternative to regular cigarettes.

Scientists from King's College London have analyzed more than 400 scientific studies and calculated statistics.

According to them, regular cigarettes are more harmful than nicotine-containing e-cigarettes. However, they did not call vapes completely safe. They argue that the devices can cause enough damage to health, especially to underage users.

According to the report, the proportion of Britons who smoke cigarettes in 2021 is between 12.7% and 14.9% of the population, while e-cigarettes are chosen by 6.9% to 7.1% of citizens. At the same time, the use of a vape among those who have never smoked did not exceed 0.7%, and 64.9% choose it as a substitute for quitting tobacco smoking.

In the end, the speakers concluded that in the short and medium term, e-cigarettes cause significantly fewer health risks than smoking tobacco. Vaping delivers far fewer different harmful compounds to the body, as evidenced by biomarkers of cancer, respiratory and cardiovascular disease.
