What are the dangers of prolonged COVID-19

Long-term symptoms of coronavirus infection may pose a greater threat than originally thought. That's the conclusion reached by scientists at the Scripps Research Institute and the Long-Term COVID-19 Patient Research Collaboration. The scientific work, published in Nature Reviews Microbiology, is summarized in a press release on MedicalXpress.

The scientists reviewed scientific papers on COVID-19 symptoms and long-term postinfection in children. They found that about 10 percent of infected people develop lingering COVID-19, and people between the ages of 36 and 50 are most likely to be affected. People with a mild form of long-term coronavirus infection are likely to be cured of it within a year. However, in the case of more severe postkovirus, the symptoms may become chronic.

In many cases, symptoms of long-term COVID-19 become virtually indistinguishable from several other conditions, such as symptoms of autonomic dysfunction, chronic fatigue syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome, and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Data indicate that patients with symptoms similar to postural orthostatic tachycardia will live with the condition for the rest of their lives. In addition, many of the symptoms of lingering infection are consistent with those of.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is characterized by an increase in heart rate to more than 30 beats per minute for 10 minutes when transitioning from a supine to a standing or sitting position with no decrease in systolic blood pressure.
