Blood samples of potential donor for sick child from Germany taken from Artsakh with assistance of Red Cross

January 18, 2023  18:49

Today, January 18, the Ministry of Health of Artsakh, the International Red Cross and several private persons managed to transport blood samples from a woman from Artsakh to Armenia as a potential bone marrow donor for a sick child from Germany, the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) reports.

The Registry recently reported that a sick child needing a stem cell transplant from Germany may be unable to receive a transplant from a compatible donor due to the blockade of Artsakh by Azerbaijan.

Despite the fact that the blockade of Artsakh continues, with the help of the Red Cross it has been possible to get blood samples from a woman who is ready to become a stem cell donor for a seriously ill child in Germany in case of compatibility.

The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry would like to thank everyone who helped in the humanitarian mission.

The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry is a non-profit organization founded in 1999. ABMDR helps Armenians and non-Armenians around the world survive life-threatening blood-related illnesses by matching donors for those who require bone marrow stem cell transplants. To date, the registry has recruited more than 33,500 donors in 44 countries on four continents, identified more than 9,000 patients and facilitated 39 bone marrow transplants.
