Watching sunrises and sunsets is good for your health

January 26, 2023  17:47

British researchers from the University of Exeter have concluded that watching the sunset or sunrise improves mood as well as social behavior, Science Daily reported.

Scientists conducted an experiment in which 2.5 thousand people showed rural and urban landscapes. When a sunset or sunrise appeared on the pictures, most of the participants of the experiment marked them as more beautiful.

The 'wow' factor associated with these encounters can cause small but significant bursts of feelings of beauty and awe, which in turn have positive effects on mental well-being, said Alex Smalley, a University of Exeter researcher and lead author of the study.

The researchers also believe that observing such natural phenomena can be a component of therapy for treating mental disorders, as such observation causes a burst of positive emotions, albeit small.
