About 8,700 people have died from COVID-19 in Armenia. Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan stated this on Wednesday, during the debates on the report on the implementation and results of the 2022 program of the 2021-2026 program of the Armenian government at the special session of the National Assembly.

According to her, it would be more correct to take not only the respective mortality rate as a basis for a proper assessment of the measures taken against COVID-19 in Armenia, but also its comparison with similar indicators of countries like Armenia.

"I would not like to name specific countries, but there are states in comparison to which the mortality rate from COVID-19 in Armenia was twice as low. And that, in the conditions when Armenia was simultaneously facing both COVID-19 and external [military] aggression [by Azerbaijan]. In addition, unlike many developed countries even, Armenia has not had the problem of insufficient medical equipment or personal protective equipment. We have never faced such a problem," the health minister assured.

Avanesyan emphasized that the maximum variety of vaccines, as well as their availability, have been ensured in Armenia.
