A team of researchers led by Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU Singapore) has developed a mobile app to educate people living with diabetes and their carers about the disease and help them control their daily activities, which include taking medication, physical activity and diet, Medical Xpress writes.

The WellFeet app was developed with input from doctors from Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Health Group. It aims to help prevent a serious complication of diabetes - diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), which occur in one-third (34 per cent) of people with the disease. In Singapore, about one in twelve (8.5 per cent) or about 32,000 people have diabetes.

The app was tested with 40 pairs of patients and their carers from Tan Tock Seng Hospital and thoroughly evaluated in a qualitative and quantitative study. After one month of using the app, study participants reported positive changes in foot care behaviour and self-care routines for diabetes.
