Grigoryan: From March 1, 292 online prescriptions came to Vaga Pharm pharmacy network, of which 88 were incorrect, this is 30%

March 22, 2024  17:26

From February 29 to March 1, Armed medical system received 700 pharmacy applications. Marine Harutyunyan, Head of the Department of Drug Policy and Medical Technologies of the Ministry of Health, announced this during today’s discussion on online prescriptions in Armenia.

“Could they have applied even from February 1 to Armed to join the program? No, pharmacies wait that on February 29, when the government decree was approved, the Armed system received 700 applications that night to have a contract," said Harutyunyan.

In his turn, Vahan Grigoryan, the person in charge of the Vaga Pharm pharmacy chain, said that although the online prescription concept is good, it is being applied in the wrong way in Armenia.

"There should have been an intermediate phase—a paper phase—before switching to the online prescription. That phase has failed. I have not seen prescriptions written in the appropriate form. That is, it didn't work, and we went to the last phase in that state of not working. Now at least 750 pharmacies are not connected to Armed. In addition, there are medical centers that are not connected to Armed. The problem was giving inappropriate information. I spoke to six doctors at the end of February, only one was aware.

From March 1 until today, 292 online prescriptions came to Vaga Pharm pharmacy network, of which 88 were wrong, which makes 30 percent; 204 were correct and served. On average, our network receives nine prescriptions per day. We have 67 pharmacies, not every pharmacy serves at least one online prescription per day. This suggests that in fact, actually the doctors are not aware. This is because the information was organized by Zoom. In my opinion, you do not inform via Zoom. The relevant specialist should have visited polyclinics, explained to people," said Grigoryan, noting that very few people participated in the Zoom meetings.

Marine Harutyunyan first countered that the number of pharmacies that have not joined Armed has already decreased from 750, then added. "According to the Code of Administrative Offenses, there are fines and penalties intended for pharmacies. That is, in the event that the drug will be dispensed from the pharmacy without a prescription, the given pharmacy will be fined in the amount of 500 times the minimum [monthly] wage [in Armenia]."
