Armenia addiction treatment national center director: 210 patients with drug addiction received treatment in 2023

June 26, 2024  13:58

In 2023, a total of 2,125 patients, of which 210 were related to drug addiction, others—to alcohol, received treatment at our center. Suren Nazinyan, Director of the National Center for Addictions Treatment of Armenia, told this to a press conference Wednesday.

Nazinyan informed that petitions regarding drug addiction have increased in Armenia. He linked this to both the increase in drug trafficking and the improvement of conditions at the aforesaid center, which increases patients' confidence in treatment.

"In 2023, seven minor patients—all boys—were registered at the center. This year, a 15-year-old girl patient was admitted to the center for the first time. Later, she was sent to [Yerevan’s] Avan mental health children's department," said the director of the National Center for Addictions Treatment of Armenia.

He informed that signs of children's attraction to drugs can be their behavioral change, isolation, change of surroundings, frequent attempts to lie to parents, attempts to return home late, and inappropriate actions.

Nazinyan added that non-traditional dangerous drugs—i.e. synthetic drugs—have become more widespread in Armenia and the region in the last ten years.
