Pain in fingers of 53-year-old mother-of-3 turns out to be symptom of aggressive form of cancer

Scotch mother-of-three was left "speechless" after being diagnosed with cancer following a painful finger infection, leaving her fighting for her life, reports the Daily Record.

Peppie Scobbie, 53, from Larkhall, was also struggling with fatigue, had a persistent chest infection and was left severely bruised after relatively minor incidents. She went to see her GP and a series of blood tests led to a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Before her diagnosis, the woman had no idea that inflammation of the fingers could be a sign of a serious disease like cancer.

She immediately started chemotherapy, but contracted sepsis and pneumonia and spent three weeks in intensive care in an induced coma. After two more successful rounds of chemotherapy, Peppie spent Christmas at home in remission, reports Glasgow Live.

Several years after her initial diagnosis in August 2017, Peppie still struggles with the repercussions of her treatment including permanent damage to her mouth and gut, bone deterioration which led to knee replacements, and regular ongoing pain.
