Daily Mail: Man's constipation turns out to be symptom of dangerous type of blood cancer

May 27, 2025  08:37

Ronnie Haston, 68,  went to the doctor because of constipation, which, as it turned out, was a symptom of a dangerous type of blood cancer. The story of this man's illness was told by The Daily Mail.

Haston had never complained about his health and had no chronic diseases. He went to the doctor with complaints of intestinal problems and diarrhea. The man passed the necessary tests, after which he was asked to return in two weeks to find out the results of the examination.

However, since the man's health quickly deteriorated, he again sought medical help. This time it turned out that his kidneys were functioning at only 14 percent, and the constipation was caused by a very high level of calcium in the blood. In the end, he was diagnosed with myeloma.

Doctors were preparing Haston for a bone marrow transplant and hoped that the disease would improve. However, after a second course of chemotherapy, he developed severe pneumonia, which led to sepsis and then death.

In addition to constipation, symptoms of this type of cancer include back pain, bone fractures, fatigue, and recurrent infections. Very often, in the early stages, this disease is asymptomatic; it can be detected through blood tests.
