"Bent Boy" in China Stands Upright for the First Time After Complex Surgeries

Doctors in China have helped a teenager from Hubei Province, who spent years living with his body almost completely bent over due to a rare bone disease. According to *South China Morning Post*, after undergoing a series of complex surgeries, the boy — known in the media as the “Bent Boy” — was finally able to stand upright for the first time.

He was diagnosed in early childhood with a severe form of Fibrodysplasia — a rare genetic disorder that caused frequent fractures and severe bone deformities. Over time, his spine curved to such an extent that his body essentially folded in half, making it impossible for him to stand or walk upright.

The turning point came when the boy’s family sought help from specialists at Peking University. Doctors there developed a personalized treatment plan and performed multiple surgical procedures. During these operations, they essentially "disassembled and reassembled" parts of his skeleton to correct the deformities and restore functionality.

According to the medical team, the treatment was extremely risky and technically demanding. However, it proved successful — the boy was able to stand straight for the first time in years. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and doctors remain optimistic about his continued recovery.
