Woman in China Visits Doctor for Stomach Pain, Unexpectedly Gives Birth

July 2, 2025  08:43

A woman in the Chinese city of Enzhou arrived at a hospital on an electric scooter complaining of stomach pain — and ended up giving birth the same day, South China Morning Post reports.

On June 16, a woman surnamed Li began feeling abdominal discomfort after lunch and assumed she had simply overeaten. When the pain persisted, she rented an e-scooter and headed to the nearest hospital. After undergoing urgent examinations, doctors delivered surprising news: she was in labor. Just an hour later, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 2.5 kilograms.

Li said she had no idea she was pregnant. Due to an irregular menstrual cycle, she hadn’t noticed any changes, and she experienced no typical pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness. “I was in shock when they told me I was giving birth,” she admitted. She and her husband already have a six-year-old son and were not planning to have another child.

Despite the undetected pregnancy, Li had continued with her normal routine, including riding an e-scooter. “But the baby is healthy, which means he’s really strong,” she added. Her husband, who was working in another city, rushed home as soon as he heard about the birth.

In a similar case reported in November 2024, a woman from Illinois, USA, discovered she was pregnant with quadruplets after visiting a doctor for what she thought was a cold.
