Four Subtle Symptoms of Bowel Cancer

July 10, 2025  23:40

American gastroenterologist Joseph Salhab told HuffPost that bowel cancer can manifest through the following subtle symptoms:
• changes in digestion,
• night sweats,
• chronic fatigue,
• loss of appetite.

According to him, cases of colorectal cancer among young people continue to rise. One of the most alarming signs is even a small amount of blood in the stool. While this may be associated with hemorrhoids or anal fissures, it is also often linked to malignant tumors.

Salhab strongly urges people to consult a doctor if they notice any persistent changes in bowel habits. For instance, pencil-thin stools may indicate a narrowing of the intestinal passage. Frequent constipation, diarrhea, or unexplained alternation between the two should also raise concern.

Among other potential signs of cancer, the doctor mentions general weakness, unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain, and decreased appetite.

Another possible symptom is pronounced night sweating.
“It’s especially concerning if you wake up completely drenched in sweat,” Salhab notes.

He emphasizes that even a single one of these symptoms warrants a medical check-up — particularly for individuals with a family history of the disease or other risk factors.
