On October 13, the international research project “Accelerating Tobacco Cessation within Healthcare Systems of European LMICs: A Multi-Country Implementation-Effectiveness Trial” (ACTS) was launched in Armenia. The project aims to examine the effectiveness of various smoking cessation support methods and assess the feasibility of integrating and implementing them within the healthcare system.

The project brings together researchers and research institutions from nine countries across the European region. The study will be conducted in four countries—Armenia, Georgia, Serbia, and Albania—under the coordination of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) in Germany.

At the official project launch event, Johan Hesse, Head of the EU Cooperation Section, welcomed the initiative and congratulated the project participants, highlighting the importance of international research collaboration and initiatives aimed at protecting public health.

The research findings will help identify the most effective smoking cessation support methods and assess their applicability within Armenia’s healthcare system.

The scientific evidence generated through the study could provide a valuable foundation for developing and improving healthcare services that support smoking cessation, contributing to better population health, reduced tobacco use prevalence, and the prevention of tobacco-related diseases.

The project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
