In the last two months, West Nile virus was confirmed in 51 people in Armavir Province of Armenia. And according to preliminary data, three people died; two of them in Armavir city and one in Tandzut village. This was reported by Astine Apitonyan, head of the health and social affairs department of the Armavir Province governor's office, in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am Wednesday.
"The disease spread in the province from July 4 to September 3, 2024. The main cases of the disease were recorded in Armavir and Metsamor communities," Apitonyan added.
During the press conference held on August 21, Stepan Atoyan, Director General of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Armenia, had stated that the first case of the West Nile virus in the country was detected on August 7 in Aragatsotn Province, and its transmitters were found only in this province.
