British scientists found coffee can stimulate calorie burning

June 27, 2019  19:40

Scientists from the University of Nottingham in the UK found that coffee can stimulate calorie burning, Scientific Reports said.

As part of the study, scientists focused on brown adipose tissue, which is of great importance for newborns, helping them to avoid hypothermia. The experiment involved people, whose average age was 27 years. Experts used thermal imaging equipment to observe the work of brown adipose tissue

Nine hours before the start of the test, all volunteers had to give up alcohol and caffeinated beverages, and also not to do physical exercises. Then they had to drink either caffeinated coffee or water. It turned out that half an hour later, under the influence of coffee, brown fat began to intensively release heat, which indicates burning calories.

Scientists hope that the data will help in the fight against obesity and diabetes. For example, brown fat activators can be used to control weight and glucose levels.

The experts are expected to continue their research to find out whether other caffeine-containing beverages can achieve a similar effect and whether other substances contained in coffee play a role in the activation of brown fat.
