Sputnik V effectiveness was estimated at 97.6%

The effectiveness of the Russia-made Sputnik V vaccine was estimated at 97.6% - according to the results of vaccination of 3.8 million Russians.

The effectiveness of the drug turned out to be higher than it was stated in a publication in The Lancet.

According to Medportal.ru, an analysis of data of the Russian health ministry showed that from December 5, 2020, to March 31, 2021, 3.8 million Russians were vaccinated.

The incidence among those vaccinated starting from day 35 after the first injection was only 0.027%. The developers did not report any adverse reactions or deaths after vaccination.

In the unvaccinated adult population, the incidence rate in the same period was 1.1%. Based on these data, the developers estimated the effectiveness of the vaccine at 97.6%, while the results of an interim analysis of the III phase of clinical trials of the vaccine, published in The Lancet in February, the effectiveness was 91.6%.
