Which drinks cause premature aging?

November 5, 2021  09:43

Sweet carbonated drinks lead to premature aging, according to researchers at the University of California, San Francisco.

According to Eat This, Not That, these researchers studied the health data of more than 5,000 US citizens aged 20-65. All these patients had cardiovascular diseases.

And these studies have shown that sweet carbonated drinks accelerate tissue aging at the cellular level; people who more often included this food in their diet had shorter telomeres—i.e., pieces of DNA at the ends of leukocyte chromosomes that are linked to a high risk of developing chronic diseases and shortening life expectancy.

According to researchers, if you consume 0.5 liters of sweet carbonated drinks per day, your life expectancy can be reduced by 4.6 years.

Regular consumption of sweet carbonated drinks can affect the development of a disease not only due to the stress of controlling the metabolism of sugar in the body, but also due to the acceleration of cellular aging of tissues, said Elissa Epel, one of the aforesaid researchers.
