Specialist: 2 persons who contracted Omicron variant came to Armenia from US, Egypt

January 10, 2022  16:35

To date, two "brought" cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus have been registered in Armenia. The infected persons are middle-aged, Armenian citizens who came to Armenia from the US and Egypt. Romella Abovyan, head of the Epidemiology Department of Nosocomial Infections at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, told about this to reporters Monday.

She added that these two patients were undergoing this disease mildly, do not have pneumonia, and are treated at home.

According to the specialist, however, it cannot be ruled out that this variant can spread in Armenia from these patients, as "Armenia cannot be separated from other countries, including the developing and developed countries of the European Union. Naturally, if it has spread there, it can spread in the Republic of Armenia, too."
