People who test positive for COVID-19 omicron strain advised to reduce coffee consumption

People who test positive for COVID-19 omicron strain are advised to give up the habit of drinking coffee, said Russian neurologist Igor Matsokin (Russia).

The specialist told Gazeta.ru that during the post-COVID period, the impact on the body of stimulants, which include caffeine, should be minimized. The caffeine depletes adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which plays an important role in metabolism and energy. Its presence in the body after suffering COVID-19 is already minimal.

Caffeine also leads to dehydration and, therefore, to increased blood clotting, as well as to a decrease in blood levels of a number of important micronutrients. All this negatively affects the work of the heart and cardiovascular system. The specialist recommended replacing coffee with weak white or green tea.
