What foods are dangerous to heat in microwave?

The substances contained in beets, radishes and celery, after heating in the microwave can damage the nervous system, kidneys, cause poisoning and fetal death during pregnancy, nutritionist Elena Solomatina told URA.RU.

Also, you should not heat rice, pasta, potatoes and fermented foods.

"Solanine, which is in potatoes and eggplants, becomes more active and actually turns into a poison if you heat it. Nitrates, which are found in beets, carrots, radishes, and celery, turn into nitrosamines when heated. And this is already carcinogenic substance, which can further damage the nervous system, kidneys, be the cause of poisoning, and in pregnant women - provoke the death of the fetus. It is not only wrong to heat such food in the microwave, but also to leave it in the sun", - said the nutritionist.

Fermented foods can lose their beneficial properties, she said

"These include sauerkraut, soaked apples, fermented dairy products such as sour milk, yogurt and even cheeses. Heating will destroy the beneficial bacteria. They will simply die, and the products will lose their usefulness," the specialist explained. According to her, starchy foods change their structure and they are more difficult to digest.

Separately, the specialist singled out rice and pasta. "Many people keep them in the refrigerator and then heat them. And rice and pasta are a great environment for the development of pathogenic microflora. You can get poisoned. Useful oils, like oily fish should not be heated either. They quickly become poisonous", said Solomatina.
