How does stress affect human skin?

Stress has a killing effect on the whole human body. Our skin is no exception. It, like a mirror, reflects all internal processes, and stress leaves its mark on the skin, writes MedikForum.

Cosmetologist Tatyana Evstigneeva presented in more detail the mechanisms of the effects of stress on the condition and appearance of the human skin.

"There is no shortage of stress in our lives. But who doesn't let us wind down and relax? People who are able to do this are different in appearance; they have a healthier complexion, a smile, shining eyes, a positive life attitude, they look younger," the expert noted.

According to Evstigneeva, if stress is not overcome, one can forget about the freshness of the face and beautiful skin.

"Under the influence of stress, adrenalin and cortisol hormones are released. They trigger a whole series of reactions; cortisol expands the vessels, they become exhausted and become puffy.

As a result, swellings and red spots appear on the skin. We notice it in the form of inflammatory processes and skin irritation," the cosmetologist explained.

If a person has a genetic predisposition to acne or eczema, then vascular problems can trigger these processes from within.

A high amount of cortisol—which is always high during stress—has a bad effect on tissue regeneration, slows down the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. And these components directly affect the elasticity and flexibility of the skin; the first wrinkles appear faster, tissues sag, we acquire ptosis, the specialist noted.

If stress is present in your life every day, it is a sign that it is time to change something. And beautiful skin is not the only motivation. After all, stress has the same destructive effect on the whole human body, the expert concluded.
