Study: Women fake orgasm because of insecurity

Women fake orgasms because they feel insecure, researchers from the University of Budapest believe.

According to them, women feel insecure because they are considered "abnormal" if they do not reach orgasm. 360 heterosexual women took part in the study. All participants filled out a questionnaire that contained questions about their sex lives. The results of the study are published in the journal Sexual Medicine.

As it turned out, those who tried harder to achieve an orgasm were much more likely to fake it. Researchers also found that women who were less satisfied in their relationships were also more likely to fake it.

In some cases, women fake an orgasm because of external factors, such as fatigue, boredom, intoxication or a desire to stop having sex. But there are also other, deeper reasons, such as embarrassment, a desire to maintain partner arousal, to avoid conflict or unwanted conversation.

The nature of a woman's relationship with her partner can also affect the imitation of an orgasm. For example, casual relationships tend to be more motivated by their own sexual pleasure, and in such cases women are less likely to fake it. At the same time, women in an ongoing relationship may be tempted to fake an orgasm to boost their partner's self-esteem or to stimulate their interest.
