December 15, 2022  19:10

Walking can be more enjoyable when combined with listening to audiobooks and podcasts, says personal trainer Rachel MacPherson. And walking, according to her, is an affordable way for everyone to lose weight. Rachel told how to start walking regularly and not to abandon the healthy habit in a conversation with Eat This, Not That!

MacPherson cited a study published in the journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes in 2020. According to its results, combining exercising with listening to audiobooks increases a person's likelihood of exercising regularly by 10 to 14 percent. So Coach recommended picking interesting books and podcasts to make walking more fun.

To diversify the walks, Rachel suggested varying their pace and duration. For example, one day you can go for a short walk at a fast pace, and the next day you can increase the length of the route and decrease the speed. At the same time, it is important to strive to increase the number of steps, as the body adapts to the load, and it ceases to bring results.

MacPherson recommended choosing routes with slides several times a week to increase muscle activity, improve cardiovascular function and burn more calories.

She concluded by pointing out the importance of consistency and consistency in walking. Even bad weather should not be a hindrance, she said. She advised choosing appropriate clothing for the weather or replacing outdoor walks with walking around the house. In the meantime, you can browse social media or talk on the phone.
