Five reasons for waking up suddenly at night

Sudden awakening at night is usually due to temporary problems, but it can also be caused by a chronic disorder that requires clinical treatment, experts say in an article in The Health Site.

Sleep apnea

This is one of the most common reasons for waking up unexpectedly in the middle of the night. Apnea is characterized by a sleeper's breathing, stopping and snoring loudly. During respiratory arrest, a person's brain experiences oxygen deprivation, and it is believed that people with apnea may be susceptible to brain diseases, including dementia.

Urge to urinate

Many doctors state that a healthy body should be able to tolerate an eight-hour night's sleep without waking up to go to the bathroom. If the urge to urinate still occurs, although the person does not drink a lot of water and does not take medication, you can suspect an overactive bladder, diabetes, prostate problems (in men), heart disease.

Sweating

Waking up in the middle of the night because of profuse sweating can be seen in acute respiratory infections, diabetes and other endocrine disorders, as well as cancer.

Alcohol and food

Alcohol consumption can disrupt the circadian rhythm and shorten the sleep cycle - so after drinking the night before, you may wake up unexpectedly at the wrong time. As for food, heavy meals eaten shortly before bedtime can disrupt digestion, causing indigestion or bloating, which also act as an alarm clock.

Blue light overdose

Smartphones emit blue light, which is known to negatively affect the sleep-wake cycle. Constant use of gadgets, especially in the evening and before bedtime, exposes the body to intense blue light, and this can disrupt sleep and wake-up mechanisms.
