Foods that effectively lower blood sugar level are revealed

June 24, 2024  23:22

Experts from Australia's Edith Cowan University have found that eating leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables helps regulate blood sugar level and increase insulin sensitivity. These scientists published the results of the respective research in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

Eight thousand people over the age of 25 participated in the experiment. According to Planet Today, first, they were asked to fill out questionnaires to rate the quality of their food. Researchers were primarily interested in how much people consume leafy greens (spinach, lettuce, cilantro, chard) and cruciferous vegetables (Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli).

Blood samples were then taken from the program participants to determine glucose, serum insulin and insulin sensitivity levels, and β-cell function. The latter are pancreatic cells and are of primary importance in glucose homeostasis and insulin production.

The research was carried out over many years, and tests were done several times. It was found that with the increase in the consumption of various vegetables, the level of glucose in the blood was lower, while increasing the proportion of leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables contributes to increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin and regulating the level of this hormone.
