A high risk of bubonic plague has arisen in 81 regions of 15 provinces of Mongolia. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Mongolia and the national center for the study of zoonoses.

"The risk of getting infected with bubonic plague is very high in 81 regions of 15 provinces. Therefore, we remind that it is forbidden to hunt steppe marmots, with the help of dogs and traps, to eat their meat and keep their furs in the houses. Do not allow children to play with them near the nests," the Ministry of Health of Mongolia and the national center for the study of zoonoses noted in their joint statement.

Also, they reminded that one should not touch sick and dead marmots. If the latter are found, people are asked to urgently inform medical and epidemiological institutions about it.

The bubonic plague is an endemic disease in Mongolia and border regions of neighboring countries. This disease is transmitted by rodents and the larvae living on them. This disease is transmitted from sick animals to humans, including in case of consumption of their meat.
