Coffee may reduce negative effects of sedentary lifestyle, research finds

Researchers at the School of Public Health at Soochow University's Medical College in China have found an unexpected link between drinking coffee, a sedentary lifestyle, and a reduced risk of premature death, reports Planet Today.

The respective large study involving more than 10,000 participants found that sedentary people who drank coffee had a 1.58 times lower risk of death over a 13-year period.

Researchers suggest that the beneficial effects of coffee may offset the negative effects of lack of physical activity. The most significant reduction in the risk of premature death was seen in those who consumed 3 to 5 cups of coffee per day. But drinking more than 5 cups considerably reduces the positive effect of this drink.

These study results challenge the conventional wisdom that a sedentary lifestyle is inherently harmful.

However, the Soochow University researchers emphasize the need for further research, given the complex composition of coffee and its multifaceted effects on the human body.
