Vitamin D helps to combat breast cancer

Researchers from US found aid in the fight against widespread amongst women disease – breast cancer. It appeared, that on recovery process effects positively high level of vitamin D in patient's blood. The research is published in scientific journal Anticancer Research.

Researchers analyzed the health condition of more than 4 thousand breast cancer patients and watched, which of the participants more actively fought cancer and even survived it.

Scientists noticed, that twice the amount of vitamin D helps to effectively combat cancer. "Metabolite of vitamin D increases the communication between the cells by switching to a protein that inhibits cell division. While vitamin receptors are present, tumor growth stops," says study leader Cedric Garland, reports Fox News.

That is the reason why scientists recommend to incorporate vitamin D as an adjunct to conventional treatment of breast cancer.

There is no compelling reason to wait for further studies to incorporate vitamin D supplements into standard care regimens since a safe dose of vitamin D needed to achieve high serum levels above 30 nanograms per milliliter has already been established,” said Garland.
