These 6 foods actually make you hungrier

Snacking on any food can satiate you for some time but how full you get and for how long the food can keep you satisfied may vary. Fibre, protein and fat can help you stay satiated, but foods without these components are likely to leave you indulging in your next meal in no time. According to nutritionist Priya Kathpal, here are some of these foods.

Wheat bread

It may be high in fibre, but it lacks satiating protein and fat. To make your toast more satiating, swap the jam or the spread for a topping filled with healthy fats like peanut butter. However, be sure that you keep portions in check.

Egg whites

Although egg whites contain a lot of protein, they are low in calories and are fat-free. So by eating only egg whites, you will not stay satiated for very long. Say yes to whole eggs as they contain healthy fats which will make your meal much more substantial.

Fat-free dairy products

Yes fat-free yoghurt and milk have fewer calories, but they are also less satiating. They contain no fat to slow down the breakdown of lactose and in turn, burn off quickly. So you know why you should skip the skimmed milk and go for whole milk dairy instead.

Pickles and salty snacks

 These foods contain a lot of salts, and all that sodium can make you extremely thirsty making you feel hungrier and less satiated. So limit your intake of pickles and drink plenty of water to fight off hunger caused due to thirst.

Whole grain crackers

They may offer you heart healthy fibre, but they are mostly carbohydrates without any protein or fat. So you can top crackers with a little peanut butter and a dollop of hummus to curb hunger.

White rice

The starch in rice makes your sugar level dip making you feel hungry just a few minutes after eating rice. You can make the switch to brown rice as it is loaded with fibre and top it with some dal so it helps you stay satiated .
