Calcium plays an important role not only in building bones but also in overall health. It regulates blood clotting, normalizes blood pressure, and even protects against certain types of cancer.

What are the richest foods in calcium?

Plant-based sources of calcium:

Sesame (1474 mg per 100 grams of product)

Sunflower seeds (367 mg per 100 grams)

Soy grains (348 mg per 100 g)

Almonds (273 mg per 100 grams; other nuts have less calcium)

Parsley (245 mg per 100 g)

Dill (greens, 223 mg per 100 g)

Chickpeas (193 mg per 100 g)

Garlic (180 mg per 100 g)

Basil (herbs, 177 mg per 100 g)

Wheat bran (150 mg per 100 g)

Some of the best animal sources of calcium include:

cheese (Parmesan - 1,184 mg per 100 grams; other cheeses have less of it)

milk (dry non-fatty milk - 1155 mg per 100 grams; less in other types of calcium)

curd (120-160 mg per 100 grams)

fermented milk products (about 120 mg per 100 grams)

fish (sea bass - 120 mg per 100 grams)

red caviar (90 mg per 100 g).
