20 boys who lost their hands in Artsakh war get leading bionic prostheses

July 21, 2021  11:25

Hrayr Asatryan, who lost his hand in the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war last fall, is testing his new bionic prosthesis for the first time, and it will completely change the quality of his life.

Until now, Hrayr had to "make do" with just one hand, but this created many everyday problems.

The new hand prosthesis will allow Hrayr to pick up objects—even weighing up to 15 kilograms—, to drive more easily, and to become much more independent in general.

Hrayr had lost his hand in the last Artsakh war, on October 4.

Until now, the Armenian servicemen who lost their hands were fitted with prostheses which had more aesthetic significance, as their functionality was not great.

But now, within the framework of a new program, 20 boys who lost their hands in the Artsakh war are being fitted with the most modern bionic prostheses, which are made individually for each of them.

Two of these boys had lost both their hands, and therefore they will get two such bionic prostheses, apiece.

These 22 bionic prostheses were purchased by the Hayastan All Armenian Fund—and for about 1 million euros.
