Health ministry: Autistic spectrum disorder rates increase in Armenia over past 2 decades

The World Autism Awareness Day was established by the United Nations in 2007 and aims to raise awareness to improve the lives of people diagnosed with autism.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or autism, is a developmental disorder that can cause considerable social, communication, and behavioral challenges the Ministry of Health of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

ASD rates have increased in many countries, including Armenia, over the past two decades.

The primary confirmed cases were as follows:

2022 - 423 cases

2023 - 449 cases

As of March 29, 2024 - 130 cases

The scope of ambulatory-polyclinic medical care and service for children in Armenia includes both the assessment of the child's growth and development, as well as the implementation of the child autism test, the purpose of which is the early detection of ASD, and the implementation of early intervention accordingly.
